About Hard Truths
Mike Leigh’s Hard Truths follows Pansy Deacon (Marianne Jean-Baptiste), a middle-aged Londoner battling depression and simmering resentment. Her sharp tongue strains relationships with her passive husband, Curtley (David Webber), and unemployed son, Moses (Tuwaine Barrett).
Meanwhile, her sister Chantelle (Michele Austin) provides a stark contrast with her warmth and stability. As Pansy’s buried traumas resurface, the film unravels the complexities of mental health and generational wounds. Leigh’s signature realism and Jean-Baptiste’s powerful performance create a deeply human portrait of pain, isolation, and the difficult journey toward self-understanding. Hard Truths is a raw, emotionally charged drama.
