About Rock Bottom (UK Premiere)

In 1974, Robert Wyatt fell from a fourth story window, leaving him paralysed from the waist down. Shortly afterwards, while he claims to have been “in a trance” he completed the album and married his girlfriend artist Afreda Benge (Alfie), who he still lives with. The accident brought back surreal memories of a summer of love, art and drugs for the couple in Mallorca, blurring past, present and future as hallucinations took hold.

Adopting the same dreamlike rotoscope style as Richard Linklater's WAKING LIFE, this vibrant celebration of the transformative power of music takes a suitably psychedelic take to narrative, using the albums eccentric and fantastical tales to explore in the inner psyche of two struggling artists.

Director: Thurs Maria Trenor

This year Cheltenham International Film Festival is celebrating its 6th year of bringing the best of world cinema to its thriving audience.

The Roses are once again participating in Cheltenham International Film Festival, hosting special music related film events with guests and a couple of classic films from this year's country of focus: Korea.

“Maria Trenor immerses herself in the music scene of the seventies, with its psychedelics, hallucinatory love and boundless creativity(...) The film transports us not only into the minds of its protagonists, but even further, into their dreams"
