Saoirse Ronan turns in yet another phenomenal award baiting performance in NoraFingscheidt’s immersive adaptation of Amy Liptrops best-selling memoir

30-year-old Ronna leaves rehab and a turbulent life in London and returns to the remote Orkney islands, hoping for a fresh start among the wild beauty of her childhood home. But it’s not easy to outrun the past, and memories of her drink and drug fuelled London life and troubled family history still haunt her. 

Director Nora Fingscheidt (System Crasher) brings Lipmos’s candid prose vibrantly to life, with the harsh but beautiful environs of the windswept islands providing the perfect mirror to Rona’s tortured psyche. As she relives childhood traumas and more recent challenges and against this tempestuous backdrop, it’s ultimately the transcendent power of nature that will set her on the path to recovery.
